Only 2 weeks till the season starts!
Message from the club president, Steve Weeks
Only two weekends away from the commencement of training for the 2009 season and conditions look very favourable for a good start to the season.
I would like to update you on a number of issues.
1. Coaching.
We are pleased to advise that KT and TSRC have appointed Joe Draxal as Programme Director/ Head Coach for the 2009 season. Joe is former head coach of the Australian Men’s Alpine team, coach of Jono Brauer (Australia’s number 1 alpine skier) and coached as senior FIS coach at TSRC for a number of years with the last being in 2005. Joe will not have a specific group to train however with move amongst all group.
The TSRC Directors have decided to appoint a head FIS Coach (Christian Wartusch) and head 14,12 & 10 Under coach (Pippo). This should strengthen the coaching focus for each of these age group.
The other 6 coaches for the club are currently being finalized. A number of last years coaches will be returning to the club.
2. Fees & Forms.
Our Treasurer advises that he has received Fees & Forms for 30 of the 60 training members – 50%.
Everyone who has not got their Fees & Forms to Robert (PO Box 249 Northbridge 1560 or registrar@thredboskiracing.com) should do so immediately as the club has a policy of no fees and forms – no training with the club.
If you have received this note and your child is not training with TSRC this year please send Robert or me an email immediately as the club is booking coaches on the believe that we have 60 training members this year.
3. Uniforms
The club’s Uniform policy will be strictly enforced.
- FIS – Black Carbon jacket or TSRC jacket with club’s blank pants which has a vertical red strip.
- 14, 12 & 10 and Unders – TSRC jacket with club’s blank pants which has a vertical red strip.
If you do not have the above uniform please contact Colin Hodkinson who can help you TSRC jacket and pant (colin@beyondx.com.au) or Felicity Bidencope for FIS Black Carbon Jacket (woodhome@bigpond.net.au).
4. Sponsor’s Logos on Uniforms
TSRC has two main sponsors – St Hilliers Properties and Hokkaido Tracks. Both pay significant sums to be our sponsors and in return we have undertaken to provide them with suitable exposure.
It is compulsory for everyone to have there logos on your child’s jackets – either TSRC or FIS Carbon jacket. If you don’t have both logos you do not need to do anything at this point in time however during the first week the club will arrange for logos to be put on jackets overnight.
5. Training Groups
We have approx 20 new members joining the club this year. It will take a few days for the coaches to assess everybody’s ability and suitably grade them. The groups will largely be put together by age groups. History has shown us that it’s the parents who get very worked up about which group their child is in.
The message I have to all parents is let the head coach and the other coaches do there job and for parents to stay out of the process.
6. Clubrooms
The clubrooms are mainly the domain of the training members particularly in the mornings when things are very busy.
7. Important Dates
- Saturday 4th July – first day of training
- Sunday 5th July – welcome BBQ around 12 noon outside clubrooms
- Saturday 11th July – Prizegiving for 2008 season to be held at 5pm at Keller Bar – all welcome including all new members and families.
- Wednesday 15th July – for parents and their friends – Snow Dance at Kosciusko Room of the Alpine Hotel from 7pm – 3 course dinner and band/dancing. Alison Mueller is organizing tickets and will send out a note on this shortly.
- July 22, 24 and 25 – volunteers required for Sydney Interschools races
- August 1 & 2 – TSRC Cup
- August 10-14 – Australian National FIS Champs at Thredbo hosted by TSRC.
8. What you can do to help make this year a success for your children and the club.
The simple message is – get involved. We are a small club organizing some very large events. We do need lots of help both on the mountain and behind the scenes before the races.
Please support our social functions.
Looking forward to a great season both on and off the snow.
Steve Weeks
