Whistler Cup – Final Day

The final day of competition in Whistler has concluded with TSRC’s Madison Hoffman coming 5th in the Ladies’ K1 Slalom (1:21.73) adding to her 7th the day before.  The event was won by Canadian Laurence Huot (1:18.05) who had a commanding lead over second place Brianna MacDonald (1:20.24). TSRC’s Oliver Thompson also had his second great performance of the Whistler Cup, with a 7th in the Mens’ K2 Giant Slalom (1:27.55).  Italian Paolo Padello (1:26.29) won the event ahead of Canadian Sam Mulligan (1:26.55), and fellow Italian Giacomo Scaglione (1:26:72).  Fellow Australian Harrison Coull finished 23rd (1:29.56). In the Women’s K2 Slalom Victorian Lily Newton-Brown (1:25.98) continued her good form to finish 15th with Sarah Dennis 17th (1:26.21).  The event was won by Slovenian Andreja Slokar (1:19.21) ahead of Swiss’ Aline Danioth (1:19.36). Whistler Cup – Day 2

Australians continued to perform exceptionally on a second bluebird day in Whistler with TSRC’s Madison Hoffman placing 7th in the Ladies’ K1 Giant Slalom (47.74), ahead of fellow team mate in Lucy Neill who placed 12th (49.06).  Italian Carlotta Saracco (43.88) took out the event ahead of Japanese duo Asami Katagiri and Chelsea Kumono. In the Men’s K2 Slalom fellow NSW athlete Zac Kelly came a excellent 6th (1:26.32) behind Switzerland’s winner Marco Michel (1:23.09).  Unfortunately fellow Australian athletes in this event failed to finish in difficult course conditions. Whistler Cup Champion – Oliver Thompson (Super G)

Australian and TSRC Member Oliver Thompson has won gold in the prestigious Whistler Cup Super G (Men’s K2) with a time of 1:00.70, ahead of Canada’s Cameron Alexander (1:01.24) and James Crawford (1:01.38).  Fellow Australian competitors Zac Kelly finished in 6th, and Harrison Coull finished 35th in the same event. This event is one of the top international children’s events held every spring in the Olympic resort of Whistler Canada.  It attracts competitors from Canada, Italy, Japan, Norway, Slovenia, Switzerland and many other countries. Fitness Training Clinic

On the 20th April to the 22nd of April there will be a fitness clinic at the Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen.  The program is being run by Manfred Wolscher in connection with NSWACT and SSA. TSRC’s head coach Joe Draxl requires all athletes training this year to complete this clinic unless they have an alternate program approved directly by him.  A high level of fitness is a basic requirement of all athletes, and this clinic will help athletes with their training programs leading into the season.
